What I do at The Corner Office

My passion is learning about and supporting local small businesses to grow and achieve their goals.  My strengths lie at the strategic level and providing feedback to owners to help them determine their next steps in their growth journey.  I am known for being incredibly honest with entrepreneurs in either supporting or challenging their business plans to achieve their goals. The other big part of my role is supporting our internal team with the right processes and tools to create great service experiences for our clients.

Life before The Corner Office

I am a generalist in finance and accounting that has a round background from several industries.  My career started with several positions at Crown Life Insurance including accounting and analyst roles and internal audit.  Several years at The Wheat Pool (now Viterra) lent to more diverse roles in management including ERP and systems support. KPMG provided for significant experience in consulting related to risk management and financial management advisory services among many sectors.

I received my accounting designation from the Certified Management Accountants of Saskatchewan in 2000 (later to become CPA), and hold a Certification in Risk Management from Canadian Institute of Internal Audit.

Life outside The Corner Office

Two teenage daughters and their activities keep our family busy.  I believe in supporting organizations with volunteer time, especially when it involves our kids.  I have routinely coached both softball and volleyball for several years for Queen City Volleyball, Regina Volleyball Club, North Regina Little League and Storm Softball.

I am currently the Treasurer and Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee for Ranch Ehrlo Society.

What I do at The Corner Office

One of my main roles with The Corner Office is managing client relations, assisting in monthly and yearly reviews, and ensuring the clients have a solid understanding of their numbers.  My strengths lie in the details; I strive to ensure that everything from budgets and forecasts to the final numbers are seamless and accurate. I am always looking for ways to assist the owners with insight into their corporations through their financial reporting.

Life before The Corner Office

My accountancy career really began at KPMG in their Enterprise and Tax Practice in 2009. It was here that I gained most of my experience in dealing with a wide variety of industries and multi tasking. Small business quickly became my passion, and working with the people of those businesses grew my strengths. After 5 years with the firm, I moved onto a couple roles in the private sector before beginning my work with The Corner Office in 2016.  I completed my accounting designation in 2014 from the Certified Management Accountants of Saskatchewan.

Life outside The Corner Office

When I am not working, I enjoy spending my spare time with friends and family. My little family of three, soon to be four (March 2019), is kept running with a busy toddler. We enjoy the sun and the outdoors, and try spend as much of our summer as possible camping and in the lakes all across Saskatchewan.

What I do at The Corner Office

I have always had a passion for business and have worked with many different sizes of businesses within different industries throughout my career.  I consider myself lucky to have found a career that feeds my love for numbers and math but also allows to me focus on the big picture. I need to find the penny when I am reconciling an account but I also love focusing on strategy whether it is a growth strategy or a business as usual strategy. My strengths lie in my ability to understand a business at a high level while still digging into the details where required.  I love creating reports and providing information to stakeholders that is relevant, consistent and is presented in a way that is easy to understand and base decisions on. I will be a stakeholder’s biggest cheerleader but I can also be very firm and direct when I need to be.

Life before The Corner Office

I have worked in the accounting profession since 2005.  I worked at MNP while completing the Masters of Professional Accounting at the University of Saskatchewan and successfully passed the UFE in 2008.  While working in public practice I worked within many different teams but spent most of my time working within the agriculture, small business and taxation teams.  While at MNP I gained experience working with many different businesses and industries and I found my true passion was helping clients achieve their goals. In 2010 I moved into the private sector and was hired at a company as the only accountant and part of the senior management team.  I learned the client side of the business and built the accounting team from the ground up. I have worked within the manufacturing, agriculture and retail industries. I am a CPA and a member of FEI Canada.

Life outside The Corner Office

I will always be a farm girl at heart. I love spending time at the farm, especially during harvest.  My husband and I both play volleyball as much as we can and I really enjoy being active and healthy. I have two teenage boys that are active in hockey and volleyball and a 9 month old daughter who keep us busy with activities.  I enjoy watching their sporting events and coaching or managing their teams.

What I do at The Corner Office

My primary role at the Corner Office is to provide quality control over financial statements.  I work alongside the Accounting Assistants to provide a “second set of eyes” in order to produce timely and accurate financial records and statement to clients.  I have also provided clients with project assistance, such as preparing records and documentation for a business sale.

Life before The Corner Office
I am semi-retired now but most of my previous work experience was either with professional accounting firms (about ten years) or with Viterra (formerly The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool – about 27 years).  I earned my professional accounting designation in 1986 as a Certified Management Accountant and held several positions within Viterra, including financial analyst, a Divisional Controller and ultimately as Director of Treasury Operations located in the then newly created Head Office in Calgary.

Life outside The Corner Office
I have two adult children, both of whom have obtained a Master’s Degree in their respective fields and one of them who is continuing his education (alongside his wife) by currently attending law school at Dalhousie in Halifax.

I loved playing competitive sports especially hockey, fastball/slow pitch and football, although my playing days are now behind me.  Golf has also been a lifelong passion, which has taught me self-control while looking for my many errant drives into the trees.

What I do at The Corner Office

Business excites me because it allows me to align myself with individuals who are passionate about what they do and have a vision for their future. My role is to listen and provide information that will help make that vision come to life.  I am analytical and won’t hesitate to ask questions that will dig deep into the “what” and “why” things need to be done and I will be there to help answer the “how”. At The Corner Office, I take on various roles for my clients including providing financial oversight, reviewing processes and providing information to help guide key business decisions.

Life before The Corner Office

My accounting career began in 2009 when I began working at KPMG as an articling student. I wrote and passed the UFE in 2012 and was named to the National Honour Roll for my exam results.  I soon made the change from public practice to working in industry as I had a desire to work within an entrepreneurial company. Over the past 8 years I have worked in the construction and real estate industry working with an organization that had 20 staff members when I started, to growing to over 100 staff members during my tenure as well as multiplying their gross revenues five times over.  The experience taught me how to be aggressive with growth but also how to deliver key decision making information to owners and stakeholders.

Life outside The Corner Office

Being physically active is core to who I am and two years ago this passion turned into a business venture as I opened a CrossFit gym with a few close friends. I enjoy getting my day started early and you can often find me coaching the 5:45 am classes at CrossFit Iron Society or practicing what I preach and doing the workouts myself in the evenings.  On rest days you can usually find me with my partner as we plan our next trip or trying to wear out our energetic puppy.

I also serve on the YWCA Board of Directors as the Audit & Finance Chair.

What I do at The Corner Office

Everyday is different at The Corner Office, but some of my main roles include month end reviews of client financials, assisting owners with understanding their business through their numbers and managing client relations. I strive to make sure financial reports are accurate and in the clients’ hand in a timely manner. But, it’s not always just about financial reporting - being able to give clients new processes in their accounting department to maximize their efficiency and reduce costs is something that also excites me.

Life before The Corner Office

I started working in the accounting field in 2011 through a part time job. I decided to formalize my interest in accounting in 2013 and completed my Business Certificate and Accounting Diploma from SIAST in Saskatoon. I received my Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification shortly after. I’m continuing to take classes through Athabasca University before entering the CPA program in the near future. Since graduation, I’ve had the opportunity to work in the agriculture and personal financial services industries in addition to operating my own small business working with individuals and other small businesses.

Life outside The Corner Office

I’m an avid curler – I live and breathe curling. I spend most of my free time at the curling rink and travelling to different events around the province to compete in mixed doubles and traditional curling. Outside of the curling season, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, camping, fishing, exploring new places, and trying to convince myself I’m good at golfing.

What I do at The Corner Office

I joined the Corner Office team in November 2018.  My main role is to help businesses manage their day- to-day accounting and financial transactions. I assist in preparing payroll, bill payments, tax filings and general bookkeeping or accounting assistance.  My goal is to take some stress off of entrepreneurs and support them to focus on operating and growing your business.

Life before The Corner Office

I received my Business Certificate and Accounting Diploma from SIAST Palliser Campus in 2015. I have always enjoyed bookkeeping, and although I took a break for a few years to explore the banking world, I always find myself coming back to the books.  I completed a work term as an Accounting Technician with MNP LLP, and spent two years with Conexus Credit Union as a Financial Services Representative.

Life outside The Corner Office

My husband and I are kept busy running after our two little ones, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! We are very fortunate to live close to Last Mountain Lake, so most of our summer is spent swimming, boating and soaking the sun. In the winter you can find us out snowmobiling, tobogganing or cozied up in the ice fishing shack.

What I do at The Corner Office

I started with The Corner Office September 2017 and I am loving every minute of it!  My main role is providing the day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping payroll duties to a variety of clients. My strength lies in having a good working knowledge of small business accounting. I have years of experience in various accounting software packages and POS systems making me a great asset to The Corner Office team.

Life Before The Corner Office

I started out as a self taught bookkeeper and worked for a few small businesses.  Then I ran my own daycare. Finally, I began doing what I love as my career, in my own bookkeeping business in 2008.  I have always had a passion for accounting, and while working and taking evening accounting classes, I received my Accounting Certificate in April 2012. Since then I have worked for a variety of companies as a bookkeeper and have learned a great deal.  I am always up for a challenge!

Life Outside The Corner Office

In the summertime you will see me out at our cabin spending time with my family, playing with my grandson or maybe on the lake fishing for the big one.

In the winter we love to travel. Cruising is our favorite winter holiday but we have been known to explore many different countries as well.  I also love to cook, bake and when I get some serious downtime, I read a book or two.

What I do at The Corner Office

My main priority at the Corner Office is day-to-day bookkeeping of our clients’ records and information. As many clients utilize our outsourced finance service (including accounts payable, GST, PST, and payroll) in addition to their regular bookkeeping, it’s important that we keep their records as up to date as possible. Open communication with our clients is key to make everything is up to date and accurate. When all of our bookkeeping clients are up to date, I also assist other team members at The Corner Office with administrative work and office manager duties. I am pursuing further education and studying for a certification in Payroll.

Life before The Corner Office

Originally, I had started my accounting career preparing, reviewing and filing of income tax returns for small business owners and farmers. In addition to accounts receivable, payroll and office administrative work, I was responsible for helping new clients find missed deductions in both personal and business tax returns, filing prior or amended tax returns, and some bookkeeping.  My career led me to work for a few different local car dealerships, but ultimately my passion is in helping small business owners with their record keeping and growing their businesses.

Life outside The Corner Office

My life outside work is just as busy! My one-year old is constantly on the go, which keeps our days very busy and exciting. When the weather is nice enough, we love going out to my parent’s cabin on Last Mountain Lake or going for walks around my hometown in Lumsden. We also spend a lot of time with boyfriend in the tractor, especially during seeding and harvest.
