BEV BETTERIDGE

My Role at The Corner Office

I left the comfort and stability of my corporate job in 2013 to start The Corner Office in my home office. The reason I left is simple — my passion is learning about and supporting local small businesses.

I want to see these companies grow and achieve their goals because I know exactly how exciting it is to start your own business. I understand the anxiety and the desire to succeed. I understand how good it feels to watch your business grow.

My strengths lie at the strategic level. I provide feedback to owners to help determine their next steps in their growth journey. I have a reputation for being incredibly honest with entrepreneurs in either supporting or challenging their business plans. Another big part of my role is supporting our internal team. Exceptional customer service is possible only when the entire staff feels appreciated, supported, and well-equipped in their roles.

Life Before The Corner Office

I am a generalist in finance and accounting with years of experience in several of Saskatchewan’s major industries. My career started at Crown Life Insurance in accounting, analytics work, and internal auditing. My time at The Wheat Pool (now Viterra) led to more diverse management roles including ERP and systems support. KPMG gave me significant experience in consulting related to risk management and financial management advisory services. I received my accounting designation from the Certified Management Accountants of Saskatchewan in 2000 (later to become CPA), and hold a Certification in Risk Management from Canadian Institute of Internal Audit.

Life Outside of The Corner Office

Two teenage daughters and their activities keep our family busy.

I devote a lot of my spare time to volunteering, especially when it involves our kids. For several years, I’ve been coaching both softball and volleyball for Queen City Volleyball, Regina Volleyball Club, North Regina Little League, and Storm Softball.

I was the Treasurer and Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee for Ranch Ehrlo Society for four years ending in 2019. In 2020, I was elected to the Board of Directors for CPA Saskatchewan. I look forward to supporting our Association and the many great accountants in this province.

Bobbi Nash

My Role at The Corner Office

I support the Corner Office team while they assist our clients with timely and accurate financial information. I help with payroll, payables, bank, credit card, balance sheet reconciliations, and many other things. My work week is always different, but I strive to give each client my best and to keep those files as up to date and accurate as I can

Life Before The Corner Office

My professional background is mostly in the Horticulture Industry. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Horticulture Science, plus experience in technical leadership positions in government research, extension, landscaping, and the floral industry. These leadership positions helped me gain experience managing annual budgets, expenditures, and preparing technical reports. During the pandemic I graduated with a Diploma in Business Administration. Taking online classes while supporting my family and three kids over the past few years has been pretty hectic. But I really did enjoy my education, and it has given me experience in juggling priorities while still delivering exceptional professional results

Life Outside of The Corner Office

Life is always an adventure with three kids, a cat, and (pandemic) puppy that joined us this past winter. Our family does a movie night every Friday. We snowboard and ski in the winter, and spend time in our yard or at the family cabin as much as we can in the summer. I enjoy crocheting, painting, and other crafts when there is time. Plants are still my first love. You can often find me tending to my (many) houseplants or in the yard working and enjoying the view. There’s nothing better than sitting in the morning sunshine in my greenhouse with a hot cup of coffee while enjoying the smell of the earth and the sounds of the birds. On second thought, perhaps a spot on the beach at our family cabin. Watching my kids get to spend their childhood having a blast in the lake that I grew up going to is pretty special

SENIOR DATA ANALYST  |  BBA, PMP

Andrew Coutts

My Role at The Corner Office

One of my strengths is developing new tools and integrating exciting new technology to improve a company’s processes. Throughout my career, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and experience with software, project management, business intelligence, and accounting. At The Corner Office, I get to use all this past experience to help clients simplify the process of collecting and analyzing their data. I enjoy discovering what is meaningful to different companies by working with them to create dashboards and reports that highlight key areas of their business. In short, I think I help save people a lot of the headaches and confusion that data entry and consolidation can cause.

Life Before The Corner Office

I’ve spent the majority of my career working in refinery project controls at the Co-op Refinery Complex, but my background also includes accounting and software implementation. I’ve used these skills in several large-scale asset maintenance projects. I helped build and optimize project schedules by working closely with the maintenance, procurement, inventory management, and accounting teams. Daily project performance reviews and forecasting analysis were part of my regular duties. It was here I found my knack for implementing business intelligence and reporting systems to create visuals that easily displayed the status of each project to stakeholders.

Life Outside of The Corner Office

I’m passionate about continuously learning about the ever-changing world of technology. During my spare time, I like researching new programming languages, tools and technologies, and when I’m not on the computer I like spending time with family and friends. I’ve got a young son named Rowan and it’s pretty great watching him experience things for the first time.

My Role at The Corner Office

My role at The Corner Office includes a number of different focal points based on a variety of client needs. I help clients create efficiencies, improve processes, and provide timely and accurate information. Every day I’m trying to use my experience to help increase the financial success of small businesses or build upon their existing financial health. I also assess each business to determine what new information they need to help them grow and succeed as a business. My work at The Corner Office has me analyzing, overseeing, and assessing client information to help business owners in their decision making and strategy

Life Before The Corner Office

I started my career in accounting with KPMG in the fall of 2013 as a part of the external audit team. During my five years there I got to work with a diverse array of businesses and I learned the ins and outs of many industries. While at KPMG, I successfully wrote the CFE in the fall of 2016 and earned my CPA designation. Although I enjoyed many aspects of my work at KPMG, I decided to try something new and joined the internal audit department at Crown Investments Corporation. After a year, I took a term position as the Assistant Corporate Controller within the accounting department. This helped me discover that my true interest is how accounting can influence business strategy. This discovery helped lead me to my new home at The Corner Office—a position that helps me pursue what I’m most passionate about

Life Outside of The Corner Office

I spend a lot of time with friends and family playing, discussing and watching sports (mainly hockey and football). As a result of the pandemic, I had to switch gears and spend as much time social distancing at the golf course as I could this past summer. It was a difficult sacrifice, but I had to do it for the greater good.

I also recently got engaged and due to the circumstances revolving around COVID we decided “why wait?” and had a very small COVID wedding. The rest of my time is spent trying not to feel emasculated by my wife who is a third-degree black belt in taekwondo. (She’s also quickly becoming a better golfer than me.)

My Role at The Corner Office

My experience in public practice has made me highly adaptable. I’m able to work with a diverse array of clients to meet their specific accounting and management needs. I strive to reduce the amount of time clients spend on accounting related work so they can focus on running the day-to-day operations of their business. When I work alongside management, the goal is always to improve efficiency and provide the accurate financial information required to make important management decisions

Life Before The Corner Office

My accounting career started in Public Practice at MNP LLP in 2013. With MNP I gained a great deal of valuable knowledge and experience in audit, private enterprise, and tax. Public Practice is where I earned my Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2015. In my last 3-4 years at MNP LLP I worked primarily in the Professionals niche, but I’ve had exposure to several different industries

Life Outside of The Corner Office

I got married in October 2020! I have a very high-maintenance hunting dog named Hawk. He is our life. You can find Hawk and me outside every day whether it’s plus 30 or minus 40. My husband and I love to go fly-in fishing up north in the summertime with friends and family. Other than that, we spend our free time hanging out and playing cards with friends

My Role at The Corner Office

Every day is different at The Corner Office. My main roles include month end reviews of client financials, managing client relations, and organizing the numbers of a business to help their owners make the best decisions. I strive to make sure financial reports are accurate and in the clients’ hands in a timely manner. Being able to give clients new processes in their accounting department to maximize their efficiency and reduce costs is something I find exciting.

Life Before The Corner Office

I started working in the accounting field in 2011 through a part time job that inspired me to pursue further education in accounting. In 2013 I completed my Business Certificate and Accounting Diploma from SIAST in Saskatoon. I received my Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification shortly after.

I’m continuing to take classes through Athabasca University and am currently entered in the CPA Prep program. Since graduation, I’ve worked in the agricultural and personal financial services industries.

Life Outside of The Corner Office

I live and breathe curling. I spend most of my free time at the rink and love travelling to different events around the province to compete in mixed doubles and traditional curling. I also enjoy the great outdoors, camping, fishing, exploring new places, and trying to convince myself I’m good at golf.

ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

Wendy Muehmel

My Role at The Corner Office

I handle the day-to-day accounting for one of The Corner Office’s largest clients — a busy not-for-profit organization that keeps me hopping. We have been the go-to finance team for this client since 2015, and I strive to make sure that all the accounting is in good hands.

Life Before The Corner Office

Prior to joining The Corner Office, I worked at Viterra (Saskatchewan Wheat Pool) and gained experience in several different departments and accounting roles for over 30 years. You could say I know the ins and outs of this “field.”

Life Outside of The Corner Office

Outside of work, I love spending time with family — especially my son, daughter, and their families. We spend much of our summer at the lake. When I’m not at the lake, you’ll find me biting off yet another project around the house to stay busy.
